It’s in the quiet corners of ourselves lay the distressing experiences we carry – the ones we haven’t fully acknowledged or seen it for what it is. Often, we don’t even realise that it lingers. It’s not just a memory — it’s a rewiring of how you process the world around you and it has quietly shaped your lens which in turn, shape your perception.
Distressing experiences are emotionally charged events whilst they occurred in the past, leave imprints that were never fully processed or resolved, which stays in the subconscious and unconscious mind.
The subconscious mind holds the emotional and habitual echoes of stressors. It stores memories, habits and emotions that pop up when triggered. It’s where vague memories and feelings linger. Like why you might feel scared of something without knowing why.
For instance, if someone hurt you, your subconscious might make you feel uneasy around similar people or places without you being aware of the hidden connection. It can also shape subconscious habits like avoiding certain situations or feeling on edge. You may not realise they are tied to the past until it is triggered.
