Science-backed benefits of meditation are varied and numerous. The consistent practice of meditation has a positive impact on the physical, mental and emotional health.
Stress and anxiety are known to be major triggers of depression. Dr Denninger, director of research at the Institute for Mind Body Medicine, Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital share that research has shown that consistent practise of meditation changes certain brain regions, the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) that are specifically linked with depression.
The mPFC called the “me center” is where you process information about yourself such as when you worry about the future and contemplate about the past, the mPFC goes into overdrive in depressed people.
By consistently practising meditation, it has the capacity to alter your compulsive reactions to those overwhelming thoughts and feelings which enhances your stress resilience.
